Fort Pierre’s Fourth of July Celebration Shines Bright
July 2025
The winning 4th of July Photo Contest submission taken by Michelle Maupin Barrett.
Fort Pierre came alive this Fourth of July with the sights, sounds, and spirit of a small-town celebration done right. From parades and patriotic displays to rodeos and fireworks, the holiday offered something for everyone—and left us already looking forward to next year.
4 on the 4th participants joined the crowds who gathered early to line Main Street for the annual 4th of July parade, where floats, horses, fire trucks, and tractors brought smiles to faces of all ages. Local business, nonprofits, churches, and organizations brought their A-game, earning cheers and patriotic salutes as they gave out candy, popsicles, branded swag, hot dogs, and more.
Nearby, kids showed off their creativity in the Oahe Downstream Campground bike decorating contest, while families and friends enjoyed live music, local food, and an abundance of sunshine on the gorgeous Missouri River.
The celebration continued throughout the weekend with fireworks over the river, local shopping, outdoor fun, and countless moments shared with friends and neighbors.
Capturing the Spirit
This year also marked the launch of the Fort Pierre 4th of July Photo Contest—a chance for residents and visitors to show off the community through their lens. The winning photo, a striking image of flag-bearing horseback riders parading through Main Street taken by Michelle Maupin Barrett, truly captured the essence of Independence Day in Fort Pierre. As a prize, Maupin Barrett received a $25 gift card and a Forever 605 swag basket, and the photo is now featured on our social media and website.
